Launching of the Western Rural Electrification Project.

Part of Rokel, Siema Town and other areas have got electricity facility to serve these unserved communities. The Energy Minister, Amb. Henry Macauley told beneficiaries that his team including his hardworking Permanent Secretary, Mrs. Zainab Buya-Kamara and other partners have pushed this project so that many deprived communities would benefit from electricity. He stressed that staff of the Ministry and Agencies are paid to provide electricity and not blackout to the people. He disclosed that the sector has enemies of progress but the Ministry will always overcome them. The Minister spoke of the business opportunities and ownership of the facility. The contractor he said should employ the youth in the community. He called the areas that would benefit immediately and those later.

Hon. Pateh Bah who chaired the occasion reminded the people to protect the facility and to always pay their bills to maintain the electricity supply. Ing. Kabba of the Ministry gave an overview of the project. He assured the people that the project will be well supervised by the Ministry and EDSA. The Energy Ventures Company contractor, Festus Great said the project will be delivered in 3 months.

Speaking at the gathering amongst others were Mr. John Kargbo who stressed that the Minister of Energy be maintained in the Ministry or be transferred to Finance ministry to transform and improve it as well.

Before the launching ended, it was unanimously agreed that the banner on the Freetown – Waterloo high way with the sentence ‘ No Light, No Vote’ be removed. Minister and the community went to the point and removed the banner with the hope that light is at the community’s door steps.
